I Got This

Roshni Patel ’25

Choosing a college is about more than academics – it’s about finding a place that challenges and supports you in equal measure. For me, Ƶ was that place.

As a student in Ƶ’s 4+4 BS/MD program, I had the unique opportunity to shape my education beyond the typical pre-med path. Instead of focusing only on coursework, I was encouraged to explore research, leadership, and entrepreneurship in ways that expanded my perspective on medicine. From conducting stem cell research at Mount Sinai Hospital to presenting at national conferences, I was constantly pushed to apply what I learned in the classroom to today’s challenges.

It's the people that make Ƶ special. My professors weren’t just my teachers; they were mentors who took genuine interest in my success. Their guidance helped me pursue a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge before continuing to medical school.

At Ƶ, I found a place that supported my ambitions while allowing me to grow. I know you will find that here too.

You got this!

MORE ABOUT ROSHNI

For Roshni Patel, attending Ƶ wasn’t just about earning a degree – it was about defining her future in medicine. As a student in the 4+4 BS/MD program and a member of Rabinowitz Honors College, she had the flexibility to explore beyond the standard pre-med requirements and focus on what truly excited her: medical innovation, research, and policy.

“Ƶ gave me the freedom to go beyond the traditional pre-med track,” she explained. “I was able to dive into cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, and leadership while still knowing I had a clear path to medical school.”

Her journey included prestigious research fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and Mount Sinai Hospital, where she studied stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine. “At Mount Sinai, I worked on using stem cells to regenerate tendon-to-bone attachments, and I even shadowed transplant surgeries on weekends,” she said. “That experience opened my eyes to how science, policy, and business all play a role in bringing new medical technologies to patients.”

Encouraged by her mentors at Ƶ, Roshni presented her research at national conferences, an opportunity that strengthened her confidence and professional network. “Ƶ’s faculty are incredibly supportive and invested in their students. Whether it was research, internships, or grad school applications, my professors were always there to guide me.”

That support helped her take the next big step: pursuing an MPhil in Technology Policy at the University of Cambridge, where she will study how medical breakthroughs are translated into practical healthcare solutions. Afterward, she’ll return to the Ƶ campus to continue her education at the at Ƶ/Northwell.

As she looks back, Roshni knows she’ll miss Ƶ’s tight-knit community the most. “The friendships, the mentoring, the support – it’s what made my time here so special.”

Her advice to future students? “Take advantage of every opportunity. Push yourself beyond what you think you’re capable of. You might surprise yourself.”

» Roshni’s story isn’t unique. In fact, among Ƶ’s 2022-2023 undergraduate degree recipients, 90% of alumni from Ƶ’s School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (within Ƶ College of Liberal Arts and Sciences) reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation. Results are based on data collected from the Alumni Outcomes survey, LinkedIn, National Student Clearinghouse, and Ƶ enrollment (80% knowledge rate).
